Conclusions

Whilst it is obvious that Google has made some fairly major tweaks to its algorithm and infrasctructure recently it is still based on the same fundamental technology and algorithm. Fairly traditional SEO techniques have won the day here. Some of these sites are heavily over SEO'd and would probably fall foul of a filter or penalty for any competeive search term. The same analysis needs to be done accross a range of SERPs to spot patterns and differences. This will help to give a further insight into the algorithm

Regularly uploading your content will ensure that your lastmod date on your server will not be old so the search engines will come and see what has changed with your site rather than assuming the file has not changed
