Why Automated Submission programs don't effect your rankings
There is a common myth about automated search engine submission programs. The myth is that regularly submitting your web site to search engines will increase your search engine rankings. And a MYTH is exactly what it is!
What they don't want you to know
What the vendors of automated search engine submission programs don't want you to know is that you don't need to regularly submit your web site. You should do search engine submission once to make sure that the search engines know about your site. But thats it! I have provided links to the 3 major search engines below so you can submit your site to them.
If you can find your web site in a search engine by typing your domain, eg www.theseofiles.co.uk, you DO NOT need to submit it.
What does being indexed really mean?
Being indexed means that the search engines know about your site and have a copy of your site, this is refered to as the search engine cache of your site. You can view the cached version of your site to see what the search engine is using to rank your site.
How does the search engine rank my site?
Thats a good question! The answer is quite complex but a very short broken down explanation will be used here to show why automated search engine submission does not work.
When someone types in a keyword the search engine uses its index to match your sites parameters against the search criteria. If you match up well, you will rank, if you don't match up to the search criteria well, you wont rank.
So you see, simply being in the index will allow you to rank. So given that, how much difference do you think it makes if you submited 10 times, 100 times or even 1000 times last motnh? Thats right! Not a shade of a difference!
Why do programs exist to do this then?
Thats another good question! The answer is money! The first thing that someone does when they want to market a new site is submit it, thats pretty obvious. So when you search for search engine submission you get a lot of programs offering to take care of it for you.
Most people new to search engine marketing are sold on this idea. The truth is they will not improve your search engine position at all. What they don't want you to know is that you don't even need to submit to a search engine at all. The web is built on links so if you get links to your site, a search engine will come along, find the link and index your site anyway.
