High PR Links are better
The Page Rank bar in Google's tool bar gives a visual clue to Google's ranking algorithm which sparked a frenzy of Page Rank related tools and theories.
One of the mroe common misconceptions abour Page Rank is that only links with high page rank are worth having and that you should not link to other sites because you will "leak Page Rank".
How Google Defines Page Rank
Google defines page rank as follows
A link from site A to site B is seen as a vote for site B from A. Page rank propegates through the web via hyperlinks on web sites and thus assigns a page rank value to each URL.
So should I only get high PR links?
No absolutely not! Any relevant link is worthwhile. And you should not worry about linking to other relevant sites and "leaking page rank". Linking is all about natural relevant links. Google is looking to provide its users with the most relevant information to their search. So how do you define relevant? I like to say this. The most relevant site is the site that is most likely to provide the searches with the information they are looking for, so which of the following sites do you think would rank best?
- A site with no links to other relevant sites
- A site with 100 links to other relevant sites
Put like that, the answer is surely obvious, it is site 2, the site with 100 relevant links because it is the best resource for information on that particular subject. Now there are many other factors surrounding linking and PAge Rank or PR but that is the ethos of linking.
