MSN SEO is a little different to Google and Yahoo. You will often find pages ranking much more due to the fact that they match keywords rather than being associated to the keyword by links.
This is in large part due to MSN's block level aglorithm. MSN search has transitioned into Live search and whilst the technology has eveolved it remains as Microsoft's main search engine offering.
MSN Block Level Search Algorithm
The methodolgoy and thinking behind the Block Level search algorithm is that most web pages fit a certain set of rules. Web sites are usually broken up into the following basic web page elements.
- Logo
- Banner Image
- Heading
- Content
- Navigation
The block level algorithm lends its self to more traditional on page optimisation techniques. If you have all of the traditional page elements and include your keywords in your title, heading, body content and alt tags you will see positive results with Live search much more quickly than in Google or Yahoo.
Live search also gives much more uniform weights to links. This means lots of links that would be devalued in Google are still benneficial in Live search.
