SEO Tip of the day

Keyword Density

Keyword density is defined as the ratio of keywords within the body content of a web page. It is expressed as a percentage, so for example if you mention your keyword once in a page with 100 words you have a keyword density of 1/100 or 1%.

There are many theories on the optimum ratio for keyword density. Figures range from as low as 1% to some astronomical values like 75%.

The reality

The reality is that keyword density has very little effect on search engine position for any remotely competetive keyword. It makes much more sense to write effective copy that is likely to convert visitors in to sales or click throughs. I challenge anyone to read an article all the way through that has a keyword density of 75%.

The SEO Files Recomends

The SEO Files recomends that you write copy for visitors and not for search engines. The more natural content will keep visitors on your site and is more likely to get linked to. This has much more bennefit than the very minimal gains from getting the "optimum" keyword density.
