Socail Bookmarking is a method for a network or comunity of users to tag or bookmark particular sites and articles of interest to them. The more social bookmarks obtained by any one page the more popular it is rated on socail bookmarking sites.
If a site receives a lot of social bookmarks then it stays on the list of popular sites for longer. This provides yet more links and is to some extent an exponential event and is almost self purpetuating.
What effcts does Social Bookmarking Have on SEO?
Thats exactly what I intend to find out! From my own speculation and evidence I have seen on some case studdies, I believe the following things can happen.

- Increase SERPs due to accumulated links
The first thing that can happen is that you start receiving traffic from the social bookmarking sites if you have an article of interest. This is likely to be a spike in traffic rather than a constant source of traffic. The traffic will be to some extent targeted as they will have been searching for or be interested in the topic they clicked on to find your article. So you can achieve targeted traffic with little effort.
By putting your content in front of lots of interested parties it encourages linking to your site. This is a prime example of link baiting and viral marketing. The links obtained will be one way links from relevant sites that are on topic and will quite likely be contextual links. This does a large part of your link building for you daving you time as an SEO.
The effect of obtaining relevant links will help push your site up in the SERPs.
