Submit Your Site to the Search Engines

Firstly it should be noted that the big 3 search engines, Google, Yahoo and MSN will pick your sit eup without being told about it, assuming you have some links to it. But ehy should we make them find it when we can tell them about it?

How much?

Well, all the major search engines offer a free search engine submission process although they give no guarantee on inclusion into the search engine index or any indication as to what time scale the site will be indexed in.

Of course some of them do offer paid for programs which guarantee indexing at certain frequencies and guarantee inclusion within a certain time frame. This does not guarantee positioning though!

Google Submission

Google,s free search engine submission is the easiest to use. Its located at - http://www.google.co.uk/addurl/
Google uses a randomly generated number to determine if the submission is manual or automated. You can add comments to the submission but Ihave yet to find a use for that.

Yahoo Submission

Yahoo is the only one of the big 3 that requires an account log in to submit. Fortunately it is free to obtain a Yahoo account, it just lengthens the process if you don't have an account. You can find the Yahoo Search Engine Submission here.

MSN Submission

MSN's submission process is quite similar to Google's. Submit to MSN.

Search Engine Submission in General

I believe that search engines submission should be done manually and only once if the site is not already in the index. I do not use automated software and I can not recomend it. You will receive countless emails saying that by using this fantatic new search engine submission software you will get great rankings! FACT: search engine submission software can't improve your rnakings. All it can do is put your site in the index (or help to). Further more if your site is already in the index (which many are, especialy after the first submission) you do not need to submit monthly. DO NOT pay for search engine submission software - you DO NOT need it!

Please have a look at this list of search engines you can submit to.
